President's Letter - October 2015

by Kathy Gaines, President of the Chicago NW Suburban CPCU Society Chapter

Wow!  Can you believe that fall is here?  For children, fall means a return to school, but for the CPCU Society, it means CONFERMENT!  Early October sees another group of CPCU designees become CPCU conferees, joining the ranks with other members of the CPCU Society.  This year's meeting was held in Indianapolis, Indiana and quite a few from our area earned their designations.  Our chapter will be honoring them at a dinner on Tuesday October 20 at Granite City Food & Brewery in Schaumburg.

Do you remember your CPCU conferment ceremony?  For some, it's a long time ago; for others, it's only been a few years.  Where did you go?  Did you try for Hawaii as so many do?  Or did you make it to places like Anaheim, New Orleans or Washington D.C.?

We need to remember the time and effort we put into obtaining our CPCU designation and what it has meant to us personally and to our careers.  We also need to keep learning!!  That's what the Chicago-Northwest Suburban CPCU Society Chapter is all about!  We do encourage networking with our peers, but the focus of our meetings is on topics of importance to our industry.  The chapter brings in a diverse group of speakers to cover an even more diverse group of issues.

The Chapter is also about representing CPCU in our communities.  We just made a donation of over 30 boxes of cereal to the Schaumburg Food Pantry - - thank you for that! - - and we look forward to our annual Thanksgiving activity of creating baskets of non-perishable foods and providing gift cards for perishables for  families in need in the area served by Palatine Township..

Another fall activity is the election of next year's officers and board members.  I'll be moving into the role of Immediate Past President in 2016 and I CAN'T WAIT!!!!  I'm ready to turn over my current responsibilities to the next President.  Be sure to participate in the selection of our officers and board members for 2016.

But most of all, autumn means being thankful and I do thank you for your support in 2015.  Have a wonderful fall season!
